Description

The typical method of using isotretinoin is to take a dose of 0.5 to 1 mg/kg of body weight per day, so the maximum daily dose is 100 mg for a person of 2201b. Exceptional cases may require a higher dosage reaching 2mg/kg/day. The daily dose itself is divided into two equal doses, which should be administered at two different times of the day.

Isotretinoin should also be taken with food, not on an empty stomach, because food greatly enhances the absorption of this drug (meals high in fat have the greatest effect on bioavailability). The typical treatment cycle, lasting 15 to 20 weeks, is usually sufficient to resolve or at least control the patient's condition. However, if necessary, the doctor may initiate a second treatment cycle. This should follow an interruption of at least two months from the first treatment.
