Clomid is composed of oral clomiphene citrate. Clomiphene citrate is not an anabolic steroid but a synthetic estrogen hormone that is used in bodybuilding for the purpose of combat a number of hormonal imbalances caused by taking anabolic steroids. Clomid helps restore normal testosterone levels after treatment and prevents estrogen present in the body from acting and thus helps avoid the effects associated with it, including gynecomastia in particular.

Clomid is primarily a fertility drug that was created to stimulate ovulation in women who have difficulty getting pregnant. This molecule also has the property of stimulating the production of endogenous testosterone in men inside the testicles, by increasing the secretion of the hormones LH and FSH. It is this last property that interests bodybuilders because they experience certain hormonal imbalances when using steroids, and especially when these steroids are highly androgenic. Many androgens, and especially the strongest ones such as Oxymetholone, have the unfortunate consequence of reducing the body's natural production of testosterone throughout the steroid cycle. This is easily explained if we consider that the intake of external androgens makes the body's production of testosterone useless since these androgens produce the same effect as testosterone.
